My new food porn addiction

It gets me through my dieting days.

You know how whenever you try to tell yourself to not think about something or someone, you always end up thinking about that thing or person even more?  Well, the same holds true for food.

When going on a diet, the last thing you want to have on your mind is a nice and juicy burger with bacon and cheese, or a pizza baked to perfection with pepperoni, sausage, Portobello mushrooms, Roma tomatoes and cheese.  Yet often those are the types of things you cannot help but think about when on a restricting diet.

Currently, I am putting a limit on what to eat and how much to eat.  That’s because I regrettably did some damage to my waistline over the Thanksgiving weekend, and I will need to be on stage to perform again in less than a month.  Not to mention the fact that I want to lose some extra weight in case I gain some back over Christmas and New Year.

Ever since I have started my diet, I have been constantly thinking about foods that I should not be eating.  I have also started to spend a lot of time looking up pictures of food.  I go to the websites of some of my favorite restaurants to look at the pictures.

I also search for new eateries in my local area, and read up on what their menus have to offer.  Plus I spend lots of time checking out the websites and forums that are dedicated to food porn. In a way, it helps me to get through my cravings.

Reward your efforts

So often I hear folks say that they are going to reward themselves with something nice once they have arrived at their weight loss goal.  Yet it is not very often that I hear of people giving themselves rewards for staying on the right track.  However, if you ask me, it is much more important to give yourself mini rewards along the way instead of just looking forward to that one big reward at the end of the weight loss journey.Depending on how much weight you have to lose, it can take many months or even years to get to your weight loss goal.  Whenever you are fighting such a long battle, there are sure to be moments in which you just feel like giving up.  Therefore, you need all of the motivation that you can get along the way.

Instead of just focusing on the ideal weight that you have set for yourself, you should try to focus on mini goals.  For instance, concentrate on losing another five pounds or dropping a dress size.  Then celebrate once you have reached your set milestone.

How should you celebrate your milestones in weight loss?  That is entirely up to what you happen to fancy, and what your budget allows you to get yourself as a reward.  Personally, I would stay away from rewards that involve food.  That is because it is not a very good idea to think of food as a reward instead of an energy source.  So try something like a massage or a new outfit instead.

WOD Toys teaches children the art of fitness from the start

Workout as a family and stay fit and healthy from the very beginning

Every once in a while, a great product comes along that makes everyone smile. The WOD toy products will not only make you smile, they’ll also make you ask yourself, “What took so long?” These toys can truly be seen as the answer that everyone has been looking for.

Mothers everywhere have at some point wondered how to get children to be more active, some have even wondered how they can go about raising children to love fitness. WOD Toys have placed that elusive answer within reach. They have created work out products geared toward babies, toddlers and young children.

The baby line is similar to the older lines, except they are made of all cloth and is really meant to create familiarity. The set includes a Kettlebell, a barbell and a medicine ball. This line isn’t available until mid-July, so you may need to wait just a little bit longer to give your baby a new kind of toy.

The Kettlebell is sized perfect for little hands and weighs half of a pound. This little toy will get little ones across the nation learning the art of swings cleans and presses. Even better, you can stand right beside your little angel and work out like a team.

In addition to the Kettlebell, you can also purchase a barbell, a plyo box and a medicine ball. All of these are light weight with the barbell being the heaviest coming in at 2.2 pounds. These toys will allow you to let your little tikes perform overhead presses, squats and any other lift that is part of your regular workout regimen right along your side. You’ll be able to watch as your child grows up in a world of fitness while simultaneously playing and bonding as a family.

McDonalds gets richer and America gets bigger

We have an ongoing obesity problem that leads to numerous other medical problems. Our children are continuing to get bigger and bigger as are many adults. These are known facts that most of us have witnessed at least in some degree.

Knowing the severe consequence of eating poorly, McDonalds has reported that U.S. sales are up 8.9 percent, nearly double that of Europe which only rose 5 percent. We have to ask ourselves why this figure rose to such degree. Is it that we have given in, do we need more proof or is it that people are succumbing to lessening the U.S. dollar?

Certainly we don’t need more proof. It’s entirely possible that people have given in, though not in the sense of acceptance. What seems to be more likely is that people are giving in to poor quality food to save a buck. In actuality, nothing is being saved. People simply believe the lie.

What lie? The lie that they are eating food that may give them a few extra calories, yet it’ll also give them what they need. McDonald’s food lacks the nutrients that standard food provides. Yes, they do have a hamburger for $1 if you can call it that. It’s filled with sodium; people drink more to combat the excess sodium and the added liquid mimics’ fullness. In actuality, when that "meal" passes, hunger remains.

Even if a hamburger is only $1, people aren’t really saving that much. There are plenty of costs saving meals that can be made at home. Cost-saving meals can help save money, provide nutrition and fight obesity. There is no excuse for McDonald’s growth at the cost of America’s growth; it is up to each and every one of us to make the right decision.

The worst diet foods

Seemingly healthy yet misleading diet foods that should be avoided

Have you ever considered the type of food you reach for when you enter into the diet world? Often people have false confidence in believing that this food or that food is a good food choice. This is primarily a result of high paid advertising gurus.

Yogurt is a common food that dieters pick with the assumption that yogurt is a healthy snack. In actuality, yogurt on its own has 15-16 grams of sugar. Add on common yogurt additions such as added fruit and flavorings and you’re looking at an additional 15 plus sugar grams. In comparison, two Little Debbie Swiss Rolls contain 27 grams of sugar.

Fat-free foods often gain popularity for dieters. The problem is that more often than not when fat is removed, sugar is added and the same is true for sugar-free foods, fat is often added to sugar-free foods to replace the sugar. Some diet foods our better than others, the best thing when choosing a fat free or sugar free food is to take the time to read the label.

Vinaigrettes have been pushed as a healthy diet friendly alternative to creamy salad dressings. In actuality most vinaigrettes have just about the same amount of calories and fat that creamy dressings have. The one rule breaker to this is that balsamic vinaigrette is lower than the other vinaigrettes so it may be the best salad alternative.

The best way to avoid eating foods that can sabotage your diet efforts is to stop and think before you eat. You may also want to try this short experiment that really opened my eyes awhile back: Spend two weeks reading labels when you go shopping. You’ll be amazed at the deception that exists in seemingly healthy foods.

Three Smoothies that you should add to your weekly diet

Each smoothie offers separate benefits

Spring and summer are the perfect seasons to incorporate smoothies into your diet. They can be both refreshing and nourishing. A simple smoothie can provide nutritional benefits that your diet may lack. The following three smoothie recipes each have separate benefits, in addition to what they each provide.

Green Power Smoothie

Combine 1 cup chopped spinach, 1 banana, 1 scoop vanilla protein and 1 cup of grapes, preferably red, into a blender. Blend all ingredients until smooth. Both grapes and spinach are packed with antioxidants. They are also both known to fight cancer, improve vision and lower cholesterol. Additionally, spinach is known to boost the immune system. This particular smoothie is also a great way to sneak in some greens.

Simple Mango Smoothie

To make this delicious smoothie simply add 1 cup Mango, ½ cup Yogurt and 1 scoop vanilla protein powder to a blender and blend thoroughly. Protein powder is optional and simply added for extra protein and flavor. Mangos are considered a super fruit and are packed with cancer fighting properties. They are also very high in potassium and therefore a great way to add extra potassium to your diet.

Strawberry Banana Cream Smoothie

Combine 1 cup strawberries, 1 scoop vanilla protein powder and 1 banana in a blender and blend until smooth. Strawberries are known to fight cancer, boost the immune system and reduce the development of wrinkles. Bananas are naturally high in iron.

Try to use fresh ingredients for all of these smoothie recipes; however in a pinch you can certainly use frozen fruits or vegetables. Canned fruits should in general always be avoided; canning breaks down nutrient qualities and often has added sugars. Enjoy all three of these recipes and know with each drink you’re improving your health.

5 Mouthwatering Guilty Pleasures

salt, sugar you name it, I probably want it

In the world of constantly trying to eat healthy, watch calories and remain in control it’s only natural from time to time to want more. Everyone has that treat that they eventually crave. I’m even willing to bet that the following five foods are guilty pleasures that we all have succumbed to at some point.

Chocolate is certainly a favorite of many. It has called and even screamed my name on more than one occasion. It could be anything from a simple chocolate bar to a mocha and every once in a while I even enjoy a chocolate mudslide.

Chips are at times exactly what my body wants. This isn’t necessarily as regular as chocolate though regardless there are times when I just need a little bag of chips. It may even be nostalgic, like some lingering comfort from my teenage and college years.

Lasagna is definitely a mouthwatering guilty pleasure. It’s something that has been taboo in the diet world for quite some time with understanding considering the high calorie, carb and fat content. It’s could definitely be considered a comfort food in that it’s both warm and filling.

Corn Dogs are one of my guilty pleasures, though not just any corn dog. I specifically am drawn to corn dogs at the fair or other similar events. This again could easily be mental in that I might somehow connect corn dogs with be out having fun and riding rides.

Bacon cheeseburgers are definitely mouthwatering. They could easily become a continuous temptation. In fact, I would gladly eat a burger, specifically a bacon cheeseburger several times a week if I didn’t secretly fear the enormous consequences that would come with eating bacon cheeseburgers 3 or 4 times in a week every week.

What are some of your guilty pleasures? They could be just like mine or completely different. I will be waiting to hear how similar our guilty pleasures are.

Have Fun And Be Yourself

Happy St. Patrick's Day All!!!

I am happy to say that I might grab some green beer here in a few hours but I wanted to make a statement about the idea of drinking heavily and the decisions that come along with it.

First off, I want you to know that no matter the amount of alcohol, that you are worth more than anything in the world.  Your worth is much more than you may realize.

Although this may not seem like words to speak before a nice night of hilarity at its finest in the bars, but it is something that each and every one of us needs to hear.

It is as simple as loving ourselves. That is why we must realize that when approached by any situation, we must think about how this affects us, whether it is for the better or for the worse, and why are we doing this in the first place.

Life is filled with confusion and self esteem issues but we must always know that there are better ways to deal with issues than drinking them away.  If not for the simple fact that our bodies are not meant for excessive amounts of alcohol but also for the fact that heavy drinking can lead to a great many other problems which can make us feel worse about ourselves.

So why not choose what's best for you.  Enjoy tonight with friends that you care about and who care about you, and have fun because in the end, the fun we have today will drive us for the rest of our lives.

Spring for the Better

Spring is on its way to springing whether we are ready or not.  However, I am very ready for a little sunshine.

But Spring can be quite a disappointing idea for some because that means that summer is right around the corner.  And summer, well summer means swimming and beach ready bodies(if you believe in such a thing).

So what does this mean for us.

Well usually this can be very intimidating for those that have gained weight while the sun was on hiatus.  I am not immune from this happenstance.

As we close in on summer, we begin to hear more about the diets and the quick workout ideas so that we can look "bikini ready."

Although this idea of self prominence through the loss of weight is one that causes many eating disorders and psychological problems for people, we can use this push for the ultimate bod as one of encouragement.

Why not set a goal for yourself.  It doesn't mean go extreme and try to get those abs by the first day of summer.  What I mean is that you should try something new.  Try eating healthier or going for more walks.  Try losing a few pounds or decide to watch television.

Whatever your choice or idea, make it count for you, make it something that you have always thought might be nice, nothing too big or too small that you don't notice.  This is a practice in implementing new lifestyle changes while remaining comfortable with who you are as a person.

Try starting this next week even.  And once summer comes around, if you have kept up with your plan to change something, give yourself a reward.  Make sure to let yourself know that you are responsible for this victory and that you are amazing because that is who you are.  So why not bask in it for a while!

It's Oreo's 100th Birthday

Forget the diet just for today, besides you deserve it

Take a break from the daily grind of dieting and go eat some Oreo’s. Eat any Oreo you want, double stuffed, strawberry milk shake or the original. Today is Oreo’s 100th birthday and the only way I want to celebrate is with a handful of Oreo’s and an ice cold glass of milk.

Some people are going all out with this birthday celebration. People are singing in the name of Oreo, making elaborate sculptures and even eating them with no hands. I’m not quite that talented, all I can do is lick the cream off the cookie and then dunk the cookies.

Just in case you’re a little nervous about eating cookies or you feel cynical about Oreo making people fat for 100 years I’ve done a little research. Oreo cookies aren’t too bad in the grand scheme of things. Oreo’s have 160 calories per serving of 3 cookies. This is not too bad when compared to seemingly healthy cookies such as the Kashi Oatmeal and Chocolate that packs 130 calories for one cookie.

I will admit that in general I don’t eat cookies, however I do have a chocolate indulgence that I will turn to during those times when I just want some chocolate. I like the Vita-tops double chocolate muffin tops, I think they’re plenty sweet and they’re only 100 or 110 calories. My Vita-top will have to wait, for today on this special Oreo Birthday I’m eating Oreo’s and I’m going to Love it, it’ll be like I’m a kid again.
