What's my goal?
no soybean oil mayo! What is my ultimate goal in my diet? Feeling good, energetic, and healthy, actually being healthy (as far as my vitals, etc.) and living long enough to help my children and any others who need me in whatever they need.
I love sharing my thoughts, ideas, and experiences of this journey with you. Your thoughts, questions, and comments are so welcome. Feel free to comment any time or even start a new thread! I love hearing from you. It's very encouraging.
I'm hoping that Jillian's process of detoxification and rebuilding nutrients will get me on the right track of feeling great all the time. I do not expect to be able to conquer every step completely at first, but I'm trying, one step at a time to follow her guidelines.
As you know, I've already cut out of my diet coffee, sodas, artificial sweeteners, and soy. Or so I thought I had cut out soy, until I started reading food labels. Soybean oil is in everything, starting with mayonnaise (in my house). I threw it out and bought canola oil mayonnaise.
Jillian Michaels has 2 lists of toxins to eliminate. The fist list is called "antinutrients" (very harmful), and the second is "less-than-stellar options" (not as harmful). The antinutrients include: 1) hydrogenated fats 2) refined grains 3) high-fructose corn syrup 4) artificial sweeteners 5) artificial preservatives and colors & 6) glutamates. All of these are abundant in processed foods. BLUCK!!!
Stay tuned for the "less-than-stellar" list tomorrow!!
The other thing that I had to replace this week was my Skippy's peanut butter because it contains hydrogenated oil... which is vegetable oil that has been blasted with hydrogen so that it will remain a solid at room temperature. If it's a solid at room temperatures, guess where else it's a solid? That's right, in your arteries. It is used to increase the shelf life of foods such as chips, crackers, cookies, pies, and bread. I bought a small jar of Adam's natural peanut butter. The ingredients are: peanuts, and less than 1% salt. That's it!!! I only bought a small jar because my family isn't on board yet, and still prefer Skippy's. I guess when they see my success they might want to try what I've been doing.
I walked 3 miles with friends on Saturday (around Green Lake in Seattle), and a mile (total) up a steep hill (and back down) on Monday. I need to get a workout in tomorrow for sure. My goal is 3 or more workouts a week. I'm including Saturday in this week as it was the first time in a while that I went walking. I've lost 6.5 lbs since July 9th. My goal is 10 total lbs by August 9th, and 20 lbs by September 9th. Ten pounds a month works for me, and is a healthy rate of loss.

Those are good things to stay
Those are good things to stay away from! We saw a clip about how they make high fructose corn syrup and it was really eye opening! I'll try to find it and post it on your facebook page! I'm looking forward to the "less than stellar" group--- what FUNNY names!!! :D
