I have been telling people forever that in order to lose weight, they have to eat, and to my surprise a couple days ago I came across a news article that stated, “Healthy diets include frequent snacks”. Really? Who would have guessed? Hint!! Hint!!
Now my thought on snacking, has always been that if a person has snacks between meals then they’re less hungry and tend to eat healthier normal sized meals, and I was close. The actual study at the University of Auburn showed that not only did people eat smaller meals, their snacks and meals tended to be healthier food and they seemed to consume less sodium on a daily basis.
One point of concern that the study had revealed, is that frequent snack eaters seemed to consume less vegetables. Although, I would think that, that could be easily adjusted. If a lack of vegetables became a problem, then it seems to me that if a few snacks were raw vegetable based then the problem would be remedied. Of course, that could become rather bland.
I know I certainly wouldn’t want my snacks to suddenly be all raw vegetables. However, one of my daily snacks is a smoothie, it seems like it would be easy enough to juice a few vegies into a smoothie. Another option might be to maybe do up some roasted red peppers into a healthy version of a Quesada. I know some people like to have those mini lettuce wraps, certainly not one of my first choices but definitely doable in a pinch.
