I cut all wheat out of my diet today!

Wheat-free breakfast!Wheat-free breakfast!I feel great tonight, better than I've felt in a while!  I've been having quite a bit of indigestion.  Trying to isolate items in my diet to figure out what's making me feel poorly has proven futile, until today.

I decided to cut wheat totally out of my diet.  A few weeks ago I tried cutting all wheat products except 100% whole wheat, but was still feeling blah.  I continued with this eating plan for a few weeks, thinking that 100% whole wheat is supposed to be healthy, right?  It's the best source for getting our B vitamins, right?  Complex carbs, right?  Well, it must not be for me.

Gluten is in everything!

Ugh!  It gets so depressing reading bread labels (or any food labels for that matter)!  Can I find a bread product without gluten?  I'm starting to think that I might have to start making my own bread.  I haven't tried a health food store yet.  That might be my next step before getting out the ole rolling pin.

My sister in Atlanta introduced me to Ezekiel bread, which contains no gluten,  But it has something else that disagreed with me; lentils!  I need some bread without gluten or lentils.  Maybe I should just eliminate bread from my diet altogether.  That would cut the carbs!

I'm back from vacation!

Great AmericaGreat AmericaWhere have I been?  Out of town.  We brought our daughter's laptop computer, as it's the newest one in the house, not knowing we couldn't post messages from it.  I'm sure if we had taken time to sit down and figure out why, we could have solved the problem.  But we didn't have time to mess with the computer.

We headed down to a place called Angels Camp, CA, just southeast of Sacramento.  My sweet cousin and her husband let us use their timeshare and it was wonderful!  Did I do well at staying on my eating plan?  Well, yes, and no.

My Baby Sister is Inspiring!

The other day I got a text from my baby sister, Julie, "Hey Cindy, GUESS WHAT????".  I was driving so I couldn't really text right back right away, so I had time to ponder the question.  I didn't think it would be that she's coming to visit me in Seattle (she lives in Atlanta), as I hadn't heard her mention that she's considering it.  It couldn't be that she's pregnant again because she seems pretty happy with the number of kids she has (3).  With her recent posts here, the questions she's asked, and the weight loss goal she mentioned, I assumed it had to be some kind of weight loss.  I took a stab in the dark, "You lost 5 lbs?" I texted back.  I was right!  I just happened to guess the right amount of pounds.  I hope it didn't burst her bubble, because her accomplishment is INCREDIBLE!!!  I'm so proud of her.

Thank you Julie, Bev, Cheri, and more...

My sister, Julie, and meMy sister, Julie, and meI  would like to take this moment to thank those of you who have inspired, encouraged, and cheered me on!  Those being Jeff, Bev, Cheri, Jim, and most recently, Julie!  THANK YOU!!!  Your comments, posts, and questions are much appreciated.

So for the question of how much weight loss is realistic in 6 weeks, I'd have to say 10 lbs is very do-able.  Fitday.com, which is a food-log and weight graph sight recommends 2 lbs a week.  In that case, you could lose 12 lbs!  I shoot for 10 lbs a month, which works well for me.  You can do it, Julie!

I'm becoming my mom!

Mom and I in '97Mom and I in '97I am thankful for my dear, sweet, late, mom for so many reasons.  One of them is the very healthy food that she brought us up on.  It really gave us kids a foundation for being happy, healthy adults, even though I, personally, did not carry on with it after I left the nest.  It gave me an advantage when I started making unwise food choices later.

Halfway to Sept 9th

Today is when I see if I'm halfway to my weight loss goal (in pounds), because today is the halfway mark in time (days).  I set myself a goal of losing 20 lbs between July 9th and September 9th.  With this being August 9th, I was hoping to have lost 10 lbs by now.  I'm afraid I'm a bit shy... still at about 6 lbs lost.

I could say that I haven't had time to work out, or even walk around the block.  But if I say that, I'm setting myself up for more defeats.  So I will say that I haven't made time to do these things.  This is something that I can change.  I know exercise (even just walking) makes a huge difference because I was having great success in July partly because I was walking.

"Less than stellar" foods

Jillian Michael's books are just what I needed, and in more ways than just losing weight and feeling great.  She mentions in the first part of the book that when she got her metabolism balanced, she didn't have to work out so often, could eat more (relatively), and her skin cleared up.

I am far from being totally on the plan, but as I've mentioned, I have shaved some items out of my diet successfully.  Looking in the mirror today, I noticed that my skin is a lot clearer.  I mean more so than it has been in years.  Actually, I was astonished.  You'd think that I was using some expensive skin product that I bought on an info-mercial.

Mastering my metabolism

refreshment? or poison?refreshment? or poison?Jillian Michael's book, "Master your Metabolism" is just what I've been looking for.  I've been so confounded and kind of depressed about how easy it is to gain weight back.  It feels like if I just look at the wrong food, I gain 5 pounds.

Her book is based on the idea that our hormones get so "out of whack" from toxins in our food and environment, that our metabolism slows or screeches to a halt.  She personally was having problems keeping weight off until she met with an endocrinologist to discuss one of her clients (that she was training), and realized that her hormones were off too (hormones such as insulin, thyroid hormones, estrogen, progesterone, etc.).
